The smart tom boy.

I’m what society calls a ‘tom boy’. And, to be honest, I always have been. I don’t think that makes me any less of a woman. So here is my big admission – I like comfort. When I’m comfortable, I feel happier. When I’m happier, I’m more productive.I dabbled with more formal wear for meetings and it wasn’t for me. I’d always sit awkwardly.

Pink to make the girls wink. Happy Valentines Day.

I’ve never associated colours with gender, from when Stanley was just a couple of weeks old I dressed him in a hot pink baby-grow. He looked great!I dress myself and him in colours that suit our skin tone. Unlike me, he’s able to wear a lovely salmon & blush pink, it doesn’t make him more or less feminine. I’ll never understand why some people consider colours to have a gender.

The Big A Tee (Nor-Folk x Adnams).

Fiona and I were cuddled up on the sofa – it was a Friday night – we were likely enjoying a fruit cider and watching a dark Nordic crime thriller. Anyway, the details don’t really matter – the best bit was that my phone lit up with a DM on Instagram. ‘A lady called Liz from Adnams’ I said – ‘she wants to chat about a collaborative project’.

Standing out.

Your brand isn’t just your logo – it’s every touch point that a person has with your business. Branding goes deeper than just a (visual) identity and its application – it’s ‘you’. And, even if you don’t run a business, you can still establish your own brand. Your appearance and how you dress says a lot about you and your character and is (perhaps unfortunately) just another way people will make judgments (even before they’ve met you).

Minimal Twinning.

When you say ‘twinning’ your mind might jump to twee mother-and-child-circa-80’s match-matchy jumpsuits. It’s had a bit of a bad rep, but twinning has definitely undergone a resurgence, especially with celebrities proudly leading the way. When Stanley was born I, for one, was happy to twin – it was a very visible link and almost an endorsement – showing the world that this little one is mine! And twinning doesn’t need to be head to toe, it can be as subtle as wearing the same colour jacket.

Dot to Dot.

We presented our first collection at Dot to Dot last summer, having launched Nor-Folk just three months earlier. We set up our modest stand with our screen printed t-shirts, a couple of boards and, if we are honest, not much of a plan (other than to talk to others and get ourselves out there!). Our first show was a massive learning curve, with us making a huge step forward in our professionalism by January 2016, when we exhibited at Playtime in Paris.

The accidental photographer.

I started documenting our lives on Instagram when our son, Stanley, was born (just snaps from my iPhone). Then, for Christmas 2014, Bobby bought me a Nikon DSLR. To say I was ungrateful would be an understatement! I was so busy having just launched Nor-Folk – plus I hadn’t picked up a proper camera since I was at art school! Reluctantly I accepted Bobby’s other gift of two hours tuition with photographer Tatum Reid. Tatum soon refreshed me on the basics/fundamentals. From then on, I was hooked and have photographed (almost) everything in our lives ever since.
