Fiona introduces a few of her favourite inspirational independents.
I started my Instagram feed when Stanley was born to capture special moments and milestones. As I began learning how the app worked, I observed other mothers photographing their children and, in doing so, started to make new friends and discover a whole new world. I witnessed how people honed their photography skills, grew their followers and became brand ambassadors. I loved the idea that our Stanley could be a brand representative for an independent label. So, without hesitation, I ditched the high street.
After a couple of failed attempts, in November 2014, Stanley was selected to represent his first brand. Teepeetots&Co are two mamas from Canada who hand sew their leggings and moccasins. In four months of trading they have sold 2,300 products. That is quite some achievement ladies – well done!
Very soon we were overwhelmed to be chosen as an enthusiast for Kid + Kind – an established brand who this year will be manufacturing their clothing and are going from strength to strength. Gwen Stephanie’s little was recently spotted in their clothes!
With Bobby and I being graphic designers, we were delighted when Imagination Adventures, a book subscription company, chose our family as brand reps. We passionately believe in design for print and adore the magic and tactility a physical book offers over a mobile or tablet.
Being an enthusiast for cool and contemporary brand Jax & Hedley is pretty special in itself. It is made all the more significant because, out of this brand enthusiast search, Louise (the founder) and I have forged a really great friendship and I now count her amongst one of my best friends.
When I saw Grey North Shop’s search for an enthusiast I was concerned Stanley looked a bit too much like founder Haley’s son Grey (it’s a bit uncanny, go and have a look for yourself). Fortunately, Haley overlooked their striking resembalence and we now love working with her minimal lines. She has big plans for this year!
Ninja Punch Magic is run by Jade and she stocks a collection of shoes and clothing. I was smitten when I saw the kicks she stocks. She’s also a really lovely mama with the most photogenic little guy.
I hold Sarah of Young One Apparel in such high regard. I love typography and her tees are really well crafted. We have such similar visions, so we were chuffed to join their team as a brand enthusiast last week.
Anarkid Clothing is a new Australian organic brand for babes-18 months, which is also run by a fellow graphic designer who has penchant for geometry. We’ll rep as long as Stanley can fit in her colourful clothes – they run large so we’re hoping he doesn’t have a growth spurt any time too soon!
I want to take this opportunity to thank all these talented mums – we love working with you and watching you grow your independent businesses. We looking forward to a busy, exciting and successful 2015.
Fiona, Bobby and Stanley – the Nor–Folk.
