In the third of our Girl Crush features we are delighted to introduce you to Marcia Leone.
For those who don’t know you, please tell us your name, a bit about your family and what you do now (and how you arrived at where you are).
Hi! My name is Marcia Leone, I live in Sydney, Australia with my insanely talented husband Dave and our little three year old superhero, Archie Valentino.
I’m a lifestyle journalist turned Marketing Manager and have spent the last decade working for various newspapers, magazines and television. Just before becoming a mama I was Marketing Manager for an iconic global children’s channel. My husband owns international eyewear brand Sunday Somewhere and is always travelling to Asia, Europe and the US, and we like to go along for the ride from time to time. When my maternity leave came to an end I decided I was having way too much fun being a mama and travelling with my little fam bam so traded the 9-5 to start my own project combining my skills and passions. I created my blog NOT SO MUMSY for like-minded modern mamas who, like me, love and celebrate motherhood, but also want to retain a sense of self and style.
I work on NOT SO MUMSY full time, from home (mostly in my PJs). I feel so blessed to have been able to create my dream job! I have met and been inspired by so many amazing mamas and now get to work with some of Australia’s biggest brands!
We’d love to know more about one of your mad pre-baby adventures.
Oh my gosh…I have to be careful here. What happens on tour, stays on tour right?! One of my favourite adventures was spending three months in South Africa, volunteering at a Game & Lion reserve. After a tough break-up, I decided I needed some “me time” to find myself- what better way than bottle feeding lion cubs, hanging with giraffes and wildebeest! I may or may not have had a holiday romance with the Game Reserve Manager… let’s just say hearts were healed.
Can you let us into where you plan to travel to next, and for how long? We’re venturing to Europe with Stanley this summer.
The beauty of my husband’s work (and mine being so adaptable) is that we get to spend long stretches of time in different places. I’ve always been determined to keep adventure in my life and feel blessed to be able to do so. We are currently planning a trip to LA in July as hubby is shooting his next campaign there and maybe Hawaii on the way back. Then September will hopefully be Paris and Italy- Dave has a trade show in Paris and I have a lot of family in Italy. In between may be a trip to the snow & possibly Fiji!
I’ve read you’re healthy so what’s a recipe for your favourite smoothie.
For the most part I am quite healthy- I try to be gluten, dairy free most of time and only eat organic where possible. Then there are the Nutella binges which happen more frequently than I would like to admit…
If I make a smoothie it’s usually pretty basic coconut water, frozen banana, & berries for Archie and I’ll add spinach or Kale for myself.
Whose style do you admire and why? And how would you describe yours? And, which are your favourite clothes brands.
For celeb style it has to be Nicole Richie. She can do no wrong- always ahead of the game, a bit of a chameleon and isn’t afraid to take risks. I also love blogger Sincerely Jules’ effortlessly cool style – she was the fist blogger I started following. I’m a bit of a chameleon with my style. Day to day I’m a ripped denim, white kicks, oversized t-shirt or knit kinda gal. I feel most comfortable in denim cut offs, well cut tee and maxi cardigan. I’m pretty much monochrome with pops of colour. I do love to add a heel for an occasion though. My fave brands are Bassikke, One Teaspoon, Rag & Bone, Zimmerman, Zulu & Zeyphyr, Zara and Cotton On for affordable basics.
And finally, what do you think, or would like the future to hold for you and the family?
Hopefully another baby! I had a miscarriage earlier this year and it’s taken me a while to grieve and move forward but we are now ready to start trying again. Travelling of course, hopefully escaping the winter every year with Northern Hemisphere jaunts. Summer to summer… isn’t that the dream?! I’m also looking to align myself with the right charity- be it for children or mothers. I have always been passionate about giving back.
